Library Cards:

At this time, anybody may obtain a patron card for the Roy City Library by filling out an application and returning it to the library during regular business hours. You don't need to be a resident of the City of Roy. Children and young adults must have a parent signature on the application to get a library card. At this time, there is no charge for the first card issued to you. There is an annual renewal fee of $1.00 for each card. The renewal date is one year from the date of issuance, which is written on the back of your library card. If a card needs to be replaced, there is a 50-cents replacement fee.

Library Book/Magazine Checkouts:

  • Adults ..................... 18 years and older ..................... 8 items ................ 4 weeks
  • Young Adults .......... 13 to 17 years old ...................... 6 items ................ 2 weeks
  • Children* ................. 6 to 12 years old ....................... 4 items ................ 2 weeks
  • VHS tapes & DVDs may be checked out for 3 days only, regardless of age
  • Vertical File materials may be checked out for one week, regardless of age

    * Children 5 and under may only check out materials on parents' library cards

Returning Library Materials:

Borrowed items may be returned to the library during regular business hours or they may be placed in the book drop to the right of the front door at any time.

Renewal Policy:

Library materials may be renewed by bringing them to the library on or before the due date or by calling the library at 253-843-2331. Most items may be renewed twice. However, if an item is on the reserved list, it may not be renewed at that time. If materials are overdue at the time of renewal, a fine will be assessed from the due date to the date of renewal.

Overdue Materials and Fines:

An fine of 15-cents per item per day will be assessed on all overdue materials (books, magazines, vertical files) except video recordings which will be assessed 25-cents per day. If you have overdue materials and/or outstanding fines, you will be placed on the "NO CHECKOUT" list and will not be allowed to check out library materials or use the Internet computer until items are returned and all fines are paid.

Lost or Damaged Items:

Patrons are responsible for all materials checked out on their library cards. Lost or damaged items will be charged to the cardholder, and that person will be expected to pay for the damage or to replace the damaged or lost items.

Computer Use and Internet Access:

Roy City Library has four modern computers with high-speed cable Internet access available for public use. More terminals may be added as funding and space allow.

Before using a computer terminal, parents and students must read our computer/Internet policies, available at the library during normal business hours, and sign an Internet agreement. Users must also have a library card on file. A computer may be reserved up to a week in advance. Reservation appointments are made for one-hour sessions. However, with staff approval, additional time is allowed if there are no others scheduled. Patrons are asked to begin closing out their computer time 15 minutes prior to the end of their scheduled session if others are waiting. Patrons arriving late for a reservation will forfeit time already passed if others need the computer.

Copy Machine and Printer:

The fee for the copy machine and computer printers is 15-cents per page -- NO EXCEPTIONS. Library paper must be used in the copy machine and computer printers. There is no longer a discount for bringing your own paper.

Research:

We are always happy to assist with school reports and other research projects for our library patrons. If possible, let us know two days or more in advance about the subject matter of the project being worked on so that we can have the materials ready for you.
